Enter your fund and roughly what you hold. We'll show you, in dollars, what it actually delivered compared with a plain index fund over the same years — already net of its fees. Sometimes it's good news.
Fund fees are quoted as a small percentage, which is exactly why they don't feel like anything. Converted into the dollars missing from your balance after a decade, they stop being abstract. We do that conversion using the fund's real returns — which already include its fees — against the boring index fund you could have bought instead.
It is not always bad news. Some funds genuinely earn their keep, and this will say so. A tool that only ever delivered one verdict wouldn't be worth trusting — the same reason we published the time our own research was wrong.
